Standing Parade Policies for the Norwalk Veterans Memorial Day Parade

  1. All participants are reminded that the recurring theme of the Norwalk Memorial Day Parade is:
    “Honor Our Veterans - Support Our Troops”
  2. Memorial Day is intended to honor those who died in wartime service. Please respect that and the theme.
  3. The committee will allow commercial vehicles in the parade. Commercial vehicles must comply with these parade orders. On the day of the parade, the parade marshal will decide whether a vehicle meets the criteria below.
  4. VERY IMPORTANT: Parade units are NOT permitted to take any action that may draw spectators from the curbside onto the parade route. EXAMPLE:  no tossing of candy from floats or vehicles. Units can have designated walkers who walk the curb and hand things out. This will make the parade safer for everyone.
  5. Floats longer than 20' must be positioned no later than 8:30 a.m.
    1. Smaller floats (less than 20') should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m.
    2. Walkers in Parade Units 1–10 should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m.
    3. Walkers in Parade Units 11–the last unit should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m.
  6. Marchers are to assemble on the grassy area and NOT on the perimeter road.
  7. Adult leaders of youth groups are encouraged to provide water for the youngsters in the marshaling area and while marching.
  8. Each unit is to have an American flag properly carried or mounted on a vehicle.
  9. Electronic music is NOT permitted without prior permission
  10. No political statements or campaigning is permitted.
  11. arching units are NOT permitted to stop in front of the reviewing stand
  12. Participating organizations will be notified by email of their reporting time at the parade marshaling area at Veterans Park and their placement in the parade on or about 10 days prior to the parade.
  13. The Parade Marshal has the authority to dismiss any participating organization or individual(s) for failure to comply with these instructions or any action that (in the Parade Marshal's judgment) is not consistent with good order.

IMPORTANT

ALL UNITS MUST ENTER VIA THE EAST GATE (near Overton’s) AND EXIT THROUGH THE SAME GATE

THERE IS NO ENTRY FROM THE WEST NORWALK GATE (near the drawbridge)

VETERANS AND DRIVERS

8:00 a.m.: Drivers arrive at Legion (60 County Street, Norwalk)

8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.: Veterans arrive at Legion (60 County Street, Norwalk)

8:45 a.m.: Leave the Legion for Veterans Park
